Obituary (Li Huiguo)

Comrade Li Huiguo, vice chairman of the third council of the Chinese Society of Science and Technology Policy, academic steering member of the fourth and fifth councils, and senior scholar of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, died on the evening of December 25, 2022 at the age of 84.

Mr. Li Huiguo loves the motherland, advocates science, rigorously studies, is indifferent to fame and gain, is willing to help others, and carries out later studies. He has devoted his life to the great cause of the party and the people. His death is a great loss to the research field of Chinese science of science and the China Science and Technology Policy Research Association! We mourn and deeply cherish the memory of Mr. Li Huiguo!

The Life of Comrade Li Huiguo


Li Huiguo, male, born in May 1938, member and researcher of the Honorary Department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. From 1957 to 1962, he studied in the Department of Philosophy of Renmin University of China; from 1962 to 1966, he studied for a four-year graduate student majoring in Dialectics of Nature (Philosophy of Science and Technology) jointly recruited by Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the tug of Professor Yu Guangyuan and Professor Gong Yuzhi. Since 1966, he has been engaged in research work at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 1980 to 1982, he was a visiting scholar at the Institute of Statistics and Science at the University of Munich, Germany. 1985 Deputy Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. From 1988 to 2000, he served as deputy director and director of the Documentation and Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In 1990, he received a special government allowance from the State Council.

Comrade Li Huiguo has been engaged in the research of philosophy of science and technology and sociology of science for a long time. He has participated in the national strategic consulting and research projects on science, technology, economy and social development, and made important contributions to the early dissemination of Chinese science. Since 1978, under the guidance of the older generation of scientists such as Guangyuan, Qian Xuesen and Qian Sanqiang, Comrade Li Huiguo began to study the new discipline of science and began to introduce the discipline of science in newspapers and periodicals. In mid-July 1979, the first national academic seminar on science was held in Beijing, and Comrade Li Huiguo made a special speech at the conference. After the meeting, the National Science Liaison Group was established. Comrade Li Huiguo played an important role in the liaison group and made outstanding contributions to the preparation and early development of the Chinese Science and Technology Policy Research Association.

"As long as it is beneficial to the needs of the public, I will dedicate my knowledge, experience, wisdom and hard work, and my personal honor and disgrace will not be haunted." This is the principle that Comrade Li Huiguo followed in his conduct of life and scholarship. Comrade Li Huiguo upholds the responsibility of a scholar all his life and loves the cause of science. His fine style, excellent character and professionalism are worthy of deep memory for future generations.
