Xue Lan Elected Executive Council Member of World Federation of Science and Technology Workers


From May 8 to 12, 2022, the 23rd General Assembly of the World Federation of Science and Technology Workers was held in Marrakech, Morocco. Zhao Zhongxian, honorary member of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, recommended by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, was elected vice chairman of the organization, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, vice chairman of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Policy, and dean of the Schwarzman Academy of Tsinghua University Han Xiqiu, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology and researcher of the Key Laboratory of the Second Institute of OceanResources, was elected Executive Council. The delegation of China Association for Science and Technology attended the meeting online.

The general meeting of the World Federation of Science and Technology Workers took the responsibility of scientists, open science and the challenges of the times as the theme, and representatives of member organizations conducted extensive exchanges and discussions. Actively promote scientific and technological workers from all countries to strengthen unity and cooperation, and assume greater responsibilities and roles in jointly responding to the current challenges facing all mankind, especially in the areas of climate change, environmental protection, open science, and artificial intelligence governance. The World Federation of Scientific Workers (WFSW) is one of the earliest international non-governmental scientific and technological organizations joined by the China Association for Science and Technology. WFSW was established in London in 1946 with the aim of promoting the social responsibility of science and technology workers. At present, WFSW has 29 member organizations. In 1963, WFSW and the China Association for Science and Technology established the "Beijing Center" in Beijing, and held the Beijing Science Symposium in Beijing in 1964, which became the first large-scale international academic conference held after the founding of New China. Over the years, China Association for Science and Technology has actively participated in various activities of WFSW, and the two sides have maintained good friendship and cooperation.
