The Orientation Strategy of Discipline Construction and the Third Advanced Seminar on Scientific Research Management and Evaluation in work briefing
On May 24-27, 2011, Thomson Reuters Group, ISTIC-THOMSON REUTERS Joint Laboratory of Scientometrics, and the Committee of Scientometrics and Information Metrology of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Policy held a discipline construction orientation strategy in Wuyishan City, Fujian Province.
From May 24 to 27, 2011, Thomson Reuters Group, ISTIC-THOMSON REUTERS Joint Laboratory of Scientometrics and the Committee of Scientometrics and Information Metrology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Science and Technology Policy held the "Orientation Strategy of Discipline Construction and the Third Advanced Seminar on Scientific Research Management and Evaluation" in Wuyishan City, Fujian Province ", A total of 69 scientific research managers and researchers from 35 institutions of higher learning, hospitals and research institutes, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Wuhan University, participated in the seminar.
At the beginning of the seminar, Philip Purnell, strategic consultant of Thomson Reuters Science and Technology Information Group, gave a wonderful speech entitled "Research Evaluation in China". Mr. Purnell first briefly introduced the Web of Science, which included 49 million papers and 800 million citations in 12000 journals. The data are updated weekly. Then, using the Web of Science data and the analysis tools of Thomson Reuters, we InCites compare the time trends of paper output between China and the United States, the European Union, Russia, India, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, etc., and compare the gap between China and the world average by discipline, focusing on the dominant disciplines of Fudan University, Tsinghua University and Hunan University. Finally, the main application interface of the InCites is introduced. Researcher Wuyishan, chief engineer of the China Institute of Science and Technology Information, gave a wonderful report on "How to Evaluate Interdisciplinary Research". Mr. Wu introduced his thoughts on the evaluation of interdisciplinary research from several aspects, such as "what is interdisciplinary", "case analysis of interdisciplinary research", "difficulties of interdisciplinary research" and "some thoughts. Then, Professor Liu Zhonglin of the University of Science and Technology of China introduced the definition of interdisciplinary on the topic of "modern interdisciplinary science and its disciplinary orientation", analyzed the origin of interdisciplinary from Chinese culture, explained the interdisciplinary movement from the perspective of the historical development of science, introduced the history and current situation of interdisciplinary research in the world and China, and put forward a very constructive idea of establishing an interdisciplinary category structure. Subsequently, Director Ni Rui of the Degree Office of the University of Science and Technology of China made a report entitled "Application and Thinking of JCR, ESI and InCites Databases in Degree and Postgraduate Education". Many reports of this seminar are in line with the reality of scientific research management in colleges and universities, analyze the difficulties existing in the current management, and give effective solutions. The guests at the meeting discussed the essence and connotation of scientific research management, achievement evaluation and discipline construction in colleges and universities, as well as theory and practice. The participants said that the study has gained a lot and will provide useful help for the management and evaluation of scientific research in China.
