The First Cross-Strait Symposium on Scientometrics and Information Metrology Held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province

The first Cross-Strait Symposium on Scientometrics and Informometrics was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi from June 16 to 17, 2013. The meeting was organized by the China Institute of Science and Technology Information and the Committee on Scientometrics and Information Metrology of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Policy.


The first Cross-Strait Symposium on Scientometrics and Informometrics was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi from June 16 to 17, 2013. The conference was co-sponsored by the China Institute of Science and Technology Information, the Scientometrics and Information Metrology Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Science and Technology Policy, and the ISTIC-THOMSON REUTERS Scientometrics Joint Laboratory. Researcher Wuyishan, deputy director of the China Institute of Science and Technology Information, chairman of the Professional Committee of Scientometrics and Information Metrology, and one of the pioneers of Scientometrics in China, researcher Jiang Guohua of the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences co-chaired the meeting. Nearly 80 scientific metrology researchers from famous universities and research institutions in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China attended the meeting.

A series of theme reports were carefully arranged at the conference. The theme of Professor Huang Muxuan of Taiwan University was "Bibliometrics and University Ranking". Researcher Jiang Guohua discussed the phenomenon of "Higher Education in the Post-Popularization Era -1:99". Professor Teng Jinguang of Hong Kong Polytechnic University discussed "Evaluation and Ranking of University Disciplines" from the perspective of users. Professor Su Xinning of Nanjing University shared "Thinking about Bibliometrics", pan Yuntao, a researcher at the Institute of Science and Technology Information of China, presented "the discussion and practice of the academic evaluation of a single paper by the China CITIC Institute", Professor Chen Daren of National Taiwan University introduced "Research Frontier and Technology Frontier Detection" from actual combat, and Professor Dang Yaru of Civil Aviation University of China analyzed "the citation peak of highly cited papers", dr. Yue Weiping of Thomson Reuters Group introduced "Exploring the frontiers of scientific research using co-citation analysis methods". These reports cover the current hot topics of scientometrics, which greatly attracted the interest of the participants and generally benefited a lot.

The conference also set up a link for the exchange of soliciting papers. These papers involve different research directions such as field research, theoretical methods, scientific knowledge mapping, cooperative research, paper evaluation, patent analysis, network measurement, talent evaluation, literature retrieval, and institutional evaluation. The latest developments in my country's scientometrics and information metrology research in the past two years.

The whole conference arrangement is compact, the content is rich, the academic atmosphere is strong. The delegates reflected that the conference had a high academic level and was properly organized. It was a successful academic seminar on scientometrics and information metrology, which would have a positive impact on the scientific research, application and talent education of scientometrics and information metrology in the three places across the Taiwan Strait.
